I had [info]morfeusz take these pictures of me quite a while ago when visiting my parents, and then life happened and I didn't get around to posting them for a long time, but here goes

A day at school

I realize looking back that I never did write very much about my weeks of practical math-teacher training this fall, ah well. Either way I'm having another stretch of practical training now, this time as an English teacher for ten weeks, and an amusing thing happened that I wanted to share.

One of the things our own teachers do, and that we are encouraged to in our on classrooms as well, as to encourage/badger the students about using english at all times during the lessons, both when working together on tasks, and when they stray onto other topis to at least do it in English. Exceptions are made, of course, for when you can't quite ask about or define an unknown word by circumlocution.

I overhear the following utterance in... not quite Swedish... not quite Swenglish... Swowish?

"Det finns just [somethings] du inte kan [somthing]a och humanoids du inte kan sap-a"
I didn't quite catch the first half but I've heard enough, I head over in the direction of the speaker and tell him:
"If you're going to discuss World of Warcraft, why not do it in English since it's the language the game is actually in?"
The recipient of the information just brightens up when he hears me and exclaims
"She knows!"
While the speaker enthusiasticly turns and asks me if I play... I'm forced to admit that I only really played a little and mostly it was my brother who played, but I think I scored a few points with the gamer boys there, which felt nice, go me! :)

Fairly big screenshot )

For the english-speakers on my f-list.

The news today is primarily about the huge-ass fire that has destroyed the entire top floor plus attic of a huge 3-part apartment building last night. 70-90 apartments of which a large chunk is probably completely destroyed, and the rest likely has quite some smoke and water damages. Luckily nobody was hurt, but a fair amount of people (including an aquantance of mine) had to be evacuated, and many people who were away for the holidays now have no home to come home to.

The advertisement above the main news is for the huge middle-day (between Yule and newyears) sale, and has some animated flames to show what a very hot sale it is... *cough*

You can go to VK and read the news if you know the language, the ad in question seems to have been pulled by now though.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. )

That which cannot be pronounced...

Looks like in the next courses we, along with math history, statistics and euclidian geometry, we are also going to learn about non-euclidian geometry such as elliptic geometry and hyperbolic geometry, also known as Bolyai-Lobachevskian geometry...
As if that wasn't worrysome enough in itself... the final tenta (which it appears you only have to do if you haven't done the smaller tests scattered throughout the course) is until ten in the night...

Also I did the Johari window thing (technically ages ago, but I never got around to linking it) might do the nohari later, after people say nice things to me for a while :)

Yep, it's snowing! Kinda wimpy snowfall, but there you go...
I have a new computer also, just like [info]morfeusz, it's nice :)
Need to run off to school, and later work, but when I have a free moment I do believe I shall write about my first few weeks of teaching experience!

Dream

Tonight I dreamt I had to bottlefeed a roe deer kid... now those are some warm and fuzzies to wake up to! :D

In other news I did my first ever public DJing last night at the mini outdoors festival Sunset Park. I was a bit nervous before (as in, the last several days) as I'd only done that once before, at last New Years party with friends, but I think it went well... I certainly enjoyed myself a lot, despite the cold, and it looked like at least parts of the audience did too :) (there were quite a few different crowds considering the metal bands that played along with the goth and electro bands... but ah well, you can't please them all!)

Pictures should be forthcoming :)

As I opened the store at noon today a large gang of vintage mopedists invaded the parking lot... unfortunately I could not sell them any gasoline. :/

Stolen from [info]morfeusz, [info]odin_za_vseh and [info]tzarohell (none of which I can contribute any to, because I only really see them)
And it does seem like it's primarily aimed at people who post a lot less vanity pictures than us and/or hasn't met so many of their lj friends so many times, but here goes :)

<meme>
I think its inevitable that as we read each other's journals we create a mental pictures of each other. Even if we see each other occasionally, you tend to have a mental image of me that may or may not jibe with how I really look. If we've never met face to face, then the image in your head might be rather interesting indeed. Take a moment to figure out what celebrity I remind you of and hunt for an image online, then post it in my journal. Post this on your own journal to find out who your friends see when they read about your life.

Two Rules:

1) The person must be in the movies or on TV (but doesn't have to be an actor/actress). The person can be specific to a role (e.g. Jennifer Elhe's Elizabeth Bennet) or just the person. (I wonder how many times and edit needs to be copied until it becomes part of the meme... anyways, famous images - paintings, photographs, drawings, maybe statues! - should count.)

2) Post a picture!

Journal prettiness

I was looking at various ways to make my journal a bit prettier and stumbled over and fell in love with a style... it is purple! And it has bats! I know, how stereotypically goth of me... but it's so pretty!!! Only problem is it appears I have to be a paid user to have it! *cries* And I've been strong for so long and not thrown any money at LJ since 2006!

Ah well, I don't have any money to spare at this point anyway (we're going to visist [info]cryptid... waaaay more important!) so I guess I'll have until more money arrives in september to build up the strength to resist the temptation... (never my strongest point, I'll admit... Bats! Purple!)

Off I go... my friend the knitting philosopher is going to be here soon :)
Yes this is the same person who made this hat for Kai... For you who were really interested in one, [info]dreitropfenblut and [info]madamcod for example, I asked her back then how it'd work out, but I never got around to telling you and now I'm not sure of what I remember anymore... but I'll ask her again today so I can let you know :)

Wallpaper

Yesterday we went into the city with my mother to look at wallpaper for redecorating the bedroom. (When half the upper floor is in disarray and needs putting back together we thought one might as well take the chance and rip out the wall-to-wall carpeting that has been there since the 70s that we have been discussing the removal of since we moved into this house 5 years ago... and then put in some new wallpapaer too, as a bonus.)

On the way in mom had to stop by a store to go in and discuss store things with a fellow store owner... we stayed in the car, got bored, and Kai took the following pics of me. ) As you can see my hair is repurpled, yay!
Keep an eye on his journal for the dazzling pictures to come of his ice cream!

In the end we really fell in love with this wallpaper. )
And yes... it's a bit... intense... we're probably just going to put it in the corner around the bed. and then have the rest of the room... just shiny metallic turquoise >_<
(At least we're not planning on moving out anytime soon... I imagine it'd couse quite a few new tenants/owners to go "WTF?")

Uni stuff

Desperately trying to read through my course litterature and throw together a paper about the usage of power in a school environment I'm forced to repeatedly face the kind of manipulations the school system is designed to use on the students and the more and more pressing awareness of how I've been manipulated and shaped into the supposedly good and well adjusted member of society the state has decided it wants.

It makes me want to REBEL AGAINST IT ALL!

Not entirely useful for getting the paper in question done... *sighs*

Gardening

One thing I find is quite a pity is that I know next to nothing about gardening... it's up there with sewing and drawing for things I wish I could do. One would think that withboth my grandmothers, my mother, and my aunts being both enthusiastic and skilled gardeners I would've picked up at least something, but sadly this has failed to be the case.

Some of you have been here and seen the garden that goes with this house. It is my maternal grandmother's old house and she used to have quite the garden. Good stuff too, apparently. The red tulips by the south wall come up every spring like clockwork, as does the fire-yellow lily a bit later in the summer. There are the purple and the white flowers that I have no idea what they are and random bushes here and there, some of which I know, the hagberry/bird cherry bush/tree and the lilacs, as well as the various currant bushes.

Alas, since I know nothing, I've done nothing, and after five years of neglect the garden is starting to look a wee bit, well, neglected. Flowerbeds are starting to look less and less like flowerbeds as the various grasses and other nonflowers are invading and the stone-borders are disappearing from sight.

Yesterday I was starting to get the feeling that I really wanted to do something about this, but what could I do? Looking around a bit I figured that, even being me, pulling the ridiculously dead raspberry-sticks out of the currant bushes couldn't be fucked up that much. So I did that. While going on today I realized that after spending that much time head-first down a currant bush I could also spot the ridiculously dead brances of the bush itself, and attack those also. So now at least one of the black-currant bushes is starting to look pretty presentable. Yay!

It's amazing how much you can get done when you're running from a University deadline :)

Today's adventures

Almost half a year since I last updated... this will not do!

Today has been rather adventurous... half of it was expected, as we were scheduled for roleplaying, which is always great. However, shortly before we were going to leave for the city to get to the game we discover that the craziest of our crazy cats has reached new hights of stupidity and has eaten a dishwashing sponge... (One like this except without those dents on the side, and with the white layer, not the green one... you swedes will surely know what I mean (we knew it was a white one because about a third of the white layer was the only thing that remained when we found him)). This beat the previous weirdest thing he's eaten (the remains of half a corn cob) by far.

Naturally this was rather worrysome... we figured it really couldn't be healthy, and the vet we called agreed and said we should bring him in. She said that she could give him a sedative... because whenever they are given such they will empty their stomach contents before they fall asleep, and since the grass we had been feeding him for the very same reason seemed to provoke little reaction it seemed like the best choice. Said and done, before too long there was spongy stomach content on the floor. Quite honestly, poking around in vaguely smelly brownish yellowish goo with a wooden spatula to see if the spongy bits would likely be enough to be the entire sponge is probably my weirdest weekend activity ever >_<

Either way my ever so sweet mother had agreed to take him home with her after the vet visit so he could wake up and recover under someone's watchful eye, so we could actually go on to roleplay afterwards instead of cancelling. With everyone as busy as they are it's always a chore to find the time to gather for a game, but leaving our poor feline idiot unwatched after his adventure just wouldn't have been an option.

Roleplaying took ages, of course, as it always does... so I think I should go try to get those 5 hours of sleep I have time for before I have to get up for Uni tomorrow >_< (somebody shoot me now *headdesk*)

(P.S. If you're not watching my husbands journal you could run over and take a look at this post where there are pictures of us before going clubbing last weekend, as well as the view from my computer at the end... he also made a weird worm thing and a dinosaur of the terrycloth raptor kind)
